Camel's Rest Cafe Epping - Four star Review

Camels Rest cafe Epping

Camel's Rest Cafe

A Hookain experience.

On the 12th of November 2020 around 2:45 pm, we visited a small shisha restaurant down in Epping, Victoria called Camels rest café as part of our Hookain shisha lounge reviews.

As soon as we walked into Camels Rest Café, we received a warm welcome by the owner. He made us feel like the place was ours. We were able to sit where ever we like. The owner told us to help ourselves to a couple of drinks. We told him what we wanted to smoke, which was Al Fakher double apple mint in a regular clay head, we grabbed a couple of menus and took our seats.

We received our hookah & coal after 6 minutes of taking our seats. Their choice of hookah was a traditional silver Khalil Mamoon. We let the head to pre-heat before smoking, and after a couple of minutes, we were enjoying our first hookah session at Camels Rest Café. The smoke produced wasn’t great, but I would have to say it was average. The taste of double apple mint was decent but a bit bland. We are heavy long-time hookah smokers, so we didn’t feel any buzz or head spins. All in all, we got about an hour worth of session before the hookah was dead, which is a reasonable amount of time. The timing to receive the hookah from ordering to receiving the hookah we rate these guys an 8 out of 10 and for the Hookah experience We rate the Shisha a 7 out of 10.

The Shisha was clean although the water was almost clear it did have some floaties which aren’t too bad, it shows that they do wash their Shisha regularly. A downside was that a new disposable hose wasn’t provided nor offered. We rate their shisha cleanliness a 7 out of 10.

The customer services experience was pretty good with friendly staff and a super nice owner. The waitress, however, did take a while to notice we were there as she brought out menus about 10min after we were seated. We rate the customer service a 7 out of 10.

The venue is set up as a restaurant with traditional restaurant chairs and tables. The vibe was chilled but can get uncomfortable if you plan on a long session. The style is more for a meal and a shisha.  The business was quiet, which is understandable for the time of day that we visited. So, depending on the vibe, you prefer whether it is ordinary restaurant chairs or lounges, we rate the vibe an 8 out of 10.

The seating layout was neat with Chairs & tables around the perimeter of the building and a couple of chairs in the centre to close up excess space. The chairs are the right height to the table. However, the built-in back seating is a bit high, and you feel like you’re sitting over the table. There are no lounges. We prefer a lounge setting, however since it is a restaurant we rate their seating an 8 out of 10.

Camels rest café played Arabic music on low volume; however, the choice of music was boring. It wasn’t hyped, nor was it relaxing. It felt a bit random. We rate their music a 6 out of 10.

The venue was immaculate with indoor and outdoor seating. The restrooms, OMG they were so clean and spacious. We just had to rate Camels Rest Café a 10 out of 10 for their cleanliness.

I ordered a serve of the chicken sheesh meal with a side of coke to drink. The food was average, the rice was bland and a bit dry. The chicken was delicious and tender, although some pieces felt a bit rubbery. They also serve alcohol with a bit of self-service experience. They brought out a small bottle of Jonny Walker, a can of coke and a small jug of ice for the customer to serve themselves. This could have been a regular customer or may have been requested by the customer or simply how they serve alcohol. We rate their food a 7 out of 10.

The food prices were reasonable, and the serving you receive is worth your dollar. The chicken sheesh meals cost $20. The Shisha will set you back $30 for a regular clay head which is a bit pricey for the area; however, it is understandable due to price rises of flavour during COVID. We rate their prices a 7 out of 10.

All in all, we rate our overall experience at Camels Rest Café a 75 out of 100, which hits four stars on our scale. We believe it’s worth a visit for a quick meal and a shisha.
